Bio

Kayla Spalding is a dancer and choreographer originating from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She is receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography, and her Bachelor of Arts in History at Elon University.

At Elon, Kayla has performed works by Renay Aumiller, NeKeshia Wall, Casey Avaunt, Breanna Forbes, Lauren Kearns, Kate Sugar, Alexandra Joye Warren, and Maurice Watson. Kayla’s choreography was also selected to be performed alongside faculty work in department produced shows. Kayla received the Outstanding Senior Dance Performance and Choreography Award by the faculty of the Department of Performing Arts in 2022.

Over the past two years, Kayla has also had the opportunity to perform in the Richmond Dance Festival (2022) and travel to Florence, Italy and perform in the Florence Dance Festival (2022).

Her upcoming projects include performing in the American Dance Festival with work by Renay Aumiller, and serving as an Artistic director for the Elon University DanceWorks showcase and the MODA Collaborative, BFA senior thesis showcase in which she will perform and show choreographic work. 

In addition to dance, in the Fall of 2020, Kayla had the opportunity to participate in research exploring the history of anti-Black racism at Elon University. She was given the opportunity to present this work at the Undergraduate Research Forum in Spring of 2021.

In addition to her love of dance and choreography, Kayla loves spending time with family and friends, readings, and traveling!
