Kayla Spalding is an artist originating from Winston-Salem, North Carolina now based in New York City. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography, and her Bachelor of Arts in History at Elon University in 2023. 
Her most recent projects includes performing in the Decagon Project with the 46 Minutes Collective, the American Dance Festival with Renay Aumiller and RAD dance company and starring in the short film 'Body Language' written and directed by Sophia Melville. In addition to working for the Alvin Ailey School summer intensive this year. 
Kayla received the Outstanding Senior Dance Performance and Choreography Award by the faculty of the Department of Performing Arts in 2022. As well as the Outstanding Senior History Award by the faculty of the Department of History and Geography in 2023. Over the past two years, Kayla has also had the opportunity to perform in the Richmond Dance Festival (2022) and travel to Florence, Italy and perform in the Florence Dance Festival (2022). 
 Kayla has performed works by NeKeshia Wall, Maurice Watson, Casey Avaunt, Petra Zanki, Breanna Forbes, Lauren Kearns, Kate Sugar, Alexandra Joye Warren, and Renay Aumiller. Kayla’s choreographic work has also expanded as her work has been selected to be performed alongside other professional work in multiple produced shows. As well as serving as an Artistic director for the Elon University DanceWorks showcase and the MODA Collaborative, BFA senior thesis showcase in which she performed and shared choreographic work. 
In addition to her love of dance, acting and choreography, over the last few years, conducting and presenting research on anti Black racism throughout Elon's history (2020-2021) and research on Black women and their impact on the Civil War and Reconstruction (2022-2023). Outside of her performance and academic work, Kayla enjoys spending time with family and friends! Happy to have you here!
